The authors correlated increases of Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM) with EV-D68 outbreaks. They noted that EV-D68 infected mice exhibited paralyzed limbs, and they reported that EV-D68 had undergone genome evolutiion that enabled viral neurotropism.
